IC INFORMATION

Name: Momo (full name Momose Sunohara, but he never uses it and only people who've known him longer than the 6 or so years he's been in Re:vale know it)
Canon: IDOLiSH7
Age: 26 (canon materials still use 25, but he had a birthday pass prior to the end of Part 4)
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Appearance: Anime, Game. Noting his base hair colour is black, but the anime uses a blue tint for stylistic reasons.
Canon point: Post-Part 5.

History: -Growing up, Momo aspires to become a pro soccer player. However, a brutal injury during a game when he's around 17 destroys his chances of going professional, dropping him into a mental fugue state. Seeing his condition even after physical recovery, his sister invites him to see her favourite indie idol duo, Re:vale, and their music reaches Momo's heart and helps him move forward.
-After defending Re:vale against a stage invasion during one of their lives, Momo starts working as a stagehand for them. About a year later, Banri, the older member, is hospitalised after a stage light falls on him mid-show, and soon disappears to protect the younger member, Yuki, from someone trying to take advantage of the situation to control him. Momo seeks out Yuki during this time and, after a month of begging, manages to convince him not to quit singing now that Banri is gone.
-On the promise that Momo won't work with Yuki longer than Banri did (5 years), they team up and become the new Re:vale, intending to track Banri down. Due to the circumstances around him joining Re:vale, Momo's sister rejects him, leading to his parents offering to move him out while making it clear they don't support his new direction - Momo cuts contact with his family from guilt, leaving he and Yuki with nobody but each other as they start out on the road to fame.
-Over those five years Momo partners with Yuki, he works himself to the bone so they reach the top, changing as a person and becoming more calculating and shrewd to keep two steps ahead of the cutthroat industry, while also trying to ensure Yuki isn't "tainted" by it in the same way. In that time, he begins to subconsciously resent Yuki's focus on Banri, and "selfishly" want to stay performing with Yuki despite only considering himself a replacement, demonising his complex feelings as monstrous. This comes to a climax in Momo's introductory arc during Part 2 of the game story, as the stress of hiding his feelings from Yuki and thinking he'll throw Momo away at his rapidly approaching "expiry date" causes him to lose his singing voice.
-Leading up to Re:vale's anticipated 5th anniversary concert (which will end Momo's career anyway if he can't sing), Momo's junior idols in IDOLiSH7 and TRIGGER corner him to spill his history and admit his fears of being abandoned in a way Yuki overhears accidentally, wanting to help him how he's helped them. Realising Momo believes Yuki doesn't truly care about him, his juniors arrange a "prank" which results in Yuki almost brutalising one of them over thinking he was harming Momo, showing in his rage how deeply important Momo is to him. Combined with Banri's return (having been employed soon after his "disappearance" by IDOLiSH7's production office) and support of the current Re:vale, Momo regains his singing voice just in time for the show.
-At the start of Part 3, one of the two major production companies that used to have a total stranglehold on the entertainment industry, Tsukumo Productions, is taken over by the sadistic youngest son, Ryou Tsukumo. Momo had been "friends" with Ryou for some time before this, and knowing the damage Ryou will do in a position of power, tries to talk him out of taking the role. He fails in that, but manages to outplay Ryou's scheme to destroy IDOLiSH7 with a scandal, and later he and Yuki decide to take revenge for his kidnapping and ruining of TRIGGER's careers (to boost his new group ZOOL) by unionising the industry against him so they can safely kick him from his position and potentially have him arrested.
-While Momo and Yuki's unionising efforts begin fine, they must continue to outplay Ryou's career-destroying plans, getting riskier as Ryou gets angrier with them. Upon discovering a ZOOL member, Touma, warning Momo about one of his plans (Momo framing himself to protect Touma), Ryou decides Momo needs to disappear before he can get anything done. He has his underworld associates drag Momo back to his apartment, intending to murder him in a way that looks accidental. Ryou leaves them to their work of getting Momo extremely drunk before throwing him off his balcony, but Yuki arrives just in time to interrupt. After a scuffle where Yuki is taken hostage, Ryou ordering via phone that he be killed in front of Momo, Ryou encounters Ryuu, a TRIGGER member, in the city. Upon learning what's happening, he threatens Ryou into calling off the murders, and Yuki and Momo get into a fight over their determination to protect each other.
-Part 4 involves Ryou trying to destroy Re:vale (and break Momo) with scandals, and the matter of Yuki having a previous partner reaches the public. Working through guilt and uncertainty (given Ryou finding out about Yuki's past partner was his fault), Momo finally manages to confidently embrace his place alongside Yuki, and makes steps to take over as Re:vale's lyricist. He and Yuki confront the media furore late in the arc - making it clear that while they're only human, they'll stay standing strong for anyone who needs them - and Part 4 ends with their fourth win at the yearly music competition Black or White, using "t(w)o...", a love song which was written by Momo and composed by Yuki. During Black or White, their efforts against Ryou also bear their fruit, as the previous Tsukumo boss takes over the company again, and Ryou is intercepted and arrested during a last-ditch effort to take everyone down with him.
-Part 5 shows Momo truly taking over as Re:vale's lyricist, eventually opening up about his worries of not being good enough to Yuki and finding that it's a common ground between them. His agency's president, Rintaro, also starts making movements in the complex politics of the entertainment industry, which Momo watches over and warns him away from abusing considering he used Re:vale's coup of Ryou to establish his presence. Part 5's major arc focuses on the idea of eras ending, with Momo beginning to come to terms with what may happen whenever Re:vale has to end in the future, alongside the recognition that the juniors who he cleared a path for behind him are imminently coming for his and Yuki's throne.

Personality answers:
Who in your character's canon influenced the most growth in your character? What do they think about this character?

Momo’s partner Yuki, the one who caused him to dive into the idol world, has unquestionably been the main driver of his development. From helping to pull him out of his post-injury fugue as a teen so he could move forward, to Momo feeling he needed to lean into his manipulative, cunning side and transform himself to protect Yuki from the entertainment industry in return, Momo’s current character has intentionally and unintentionally been shaped by him. For some years, Momo held Yuki as an almost godly figure in his mind, always willing to sacrifice whatever he needed to for him and often hiding that from him. However, in recent canon, as Yuki has found out about this behaviour and lashed back, Momo’s opinion of him has shifted to something more realistic, that of a talented, strong, but still flawed person who he aspires to feel worthy of. Momo has stated that being around Yuki has made him feel more confident and more able to like himself, showing that even with this more realistic view, his presence continues to help Momo blossom, including Momo’s recent move to take up part of his mantle and become a lyricist.

What does your character think about physical appearances? Are they the sort to meticulously primp themselves, or could they not care less?

Momo takes obvious note of others’ physical appearance – he often compliments when people are attractive or well-presented (like his catch-cry of calling his partner handsome), and has mentioned he has a “weakness to hot men” as far as being easily flustered. However, he’s not the type to judge people for not maintaining it, and he also has a strong interest in what he can read out of the decisions someone has made in how they present themselves. He’s well aware given the industry he’s in that appearances can be deceiving, and that some people tailor theirs to get a certain response. In regards to his own physical appearance, he also engages in this to some degree, most obviously in his tendency to wear oversized clothing, disguising his muscles and offering a “cuter” first impression. However, he also enjoys maintaining his physical appearance for its own sake, using it as an expressive outlet (his style evolves towards loud street fashion once he stops feigning purity for Yuki). He’s something of a fashionista and enjoys helping people to find their own style and express themselves, and has stated that if he wasn’t an idol, he’d probably want to run a clothes shop.

What would your character say is their best trait? What is truly their best trait?

Momo doesn’t compliment himself much and often focuses on his surface level when pushed on his positive personal traits, so he’d call his best trait his ability to make people laugh, or cheer them up. He’s the type to rest a lot of worth on what he can do for others, and he takes great joy in being able to bring happiness or stability to other people even in their darkest times, such as helping one of his juniors work through a severe breakdown. His actual best trait and the one most commonly cited by others is his determination, from which a lot of his strengths derive. He’s willing to put his all into just about anything, is excellent at pushing people along with him, and will go the long haul even under immense stress to see the results he wants. His and Yuki’s path to fame was built on Momo working himself to the bone, taking every opportunity he could to reach out, establish them, and ensure they were seen and supported. While he frames aspects of his determination as “selfishness” and “ego” where they affect others, so not a “good” trait, he knows it’s a formidable one.

What would it take to truly upset your character, enough that they would act upon their feelings? Are they the sort to forgive?

Hurting Momo’s loved ones is the fastest one-way trip into his burn book (or the hospital). While Momo does keep note of people who’ve wronged him and is by no means naïve, he’s mostly very forgiving of things aimed at him and often represses negative feelings for others’ benefit, the most extreme example being when he spends almost 5 years concealing all flaws and dissatisfaction from Yuki, culminating in the loss of his singing voice. He’s willing to reach a reconciling hand out even to current enemies who’ve been manipulated into causing harm, shown when he offers ZOOL his number while warning them Ryou is more dangerous than they realise – when Touma uses it and is caught, Momo throws himself under the bus to protect him, sparing him Ryou’s wrath for his attempt to help others. In contrast, Momo ultimately writes Ryou off as irredeemable (despite it challenging his belief that nobody is inherently bad, only products of terrible circumstances) after his attempt on Yuki’s life, then targeting Yuki and dragging Banri into the rumours he releases in Part 4, at which point Momo has to be talked down from simply walking into his office with a baseball bat.

Inventory: A keepsake photo of himself and Yuki from when they were starting out, his phone from home (for stored photos and music), headphones, and a small potted cactus he keeps on a bookshelf.
Powers/Abilities: Momo has no supernatural abilities, but he has a lot of aptitudes:
-As a "veteran" idol, Momo has ample experience with singing, dancing, television/radio hosting, modelling, acting, and the general inner workings of the entertainment industry (from the legitimate to the shady).
-Before becoming an idol, Momo devoted most of his life to becoming a professional soccer player and thus has professional-level skills in it. Due to his training and continued active lifestyle, he's very physically strong and agile with high stamina, at one point having hospitalised three men in a 3-on-1 fistfight.
-Momo is excellent at reading the room, reading people, and adjusting himself to suit their needs, and frequently uses this along with his broader observational skills and intelligence to form trusted networks, make things work in his favour, and gather information.
-Momo is noted to pick new skills up very quickly (to the point others have said he seems to have no obvious weaknesses), though at least part of this comes down to simply being highly determined and willing to apply himself.

Goals: Since Momo’s canon story is so tightly linked with his partner, I always enjoy getting the chance to explore the directions he goes in when Yuki isn't there, and he can think more about what he'd pursue on his own. As he gets on well with people but tends to keep his secrets to himself, I'm very interested in building the kinds of CR where he’ll feel more able to disclose personal things.
Monster games in particular are something I find fun to dig into with him as he considered his true self a monster for several years (from when his complex feelings about his situation with Yuki started until early Part 3), so actually turning into a monster is a particularly deep cut for him and leans into the game’s psychological horror angle. It also gives him an interesting starting relationship with the Natural Soul as he’ll relate aspects of having it to the "monster" he created by demonising his desires, since it's the only comparison point he really has.
Ultimately, as he's a character who likes to have a lot going on, I want him to dig into the setting, support others, and hopefully eventually let some of those people in as well.
